Larry Edwards
Larry Edwards’ tattoo career began in 1976 with a traditional apprenticeship in Arizona. He went on to operate studios in Wisconsin, Illinois, North Dakota, and Hawaii, before settling in Austin. His work has been featured on the cover of a national tattoo magazine and highlighted in a line of stationery. In 1992, Larry opened Atomic Tattoo, building it from a small studio into a trusted name in the tattoo industry. Many of Austin’s talented artists can claim Atomic Tattoo as a previous address and Larry as a mentor.
While Larry is semi-retired, he occasionally works by appointment, continuing to share his artistry with longtime clients and new faces alike. Larry takes pride in the fact that children of his early clients are now returning for tattoos of their own—a testament to the lasting connection he has built over the years. His legacy lives on as Atomic Tattoo continues to be a family business, with his wife, Johnnie, and children Justin, Joey, and Jolie taking active roles in its growth.
Justin Edwards
Justin Edwards, Larry’s oldest son, grew up in the Midwest and graduated high school in Wisconsin. He joined the family business in 1998 after serving in the Marine Corps. With a strong passion for both body piercing and tattooing, Justin became a full-time body piercer and part-time tattoo artist under the guidance of his father.
With years of hands-on experience, Justin brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to Atomic Tattoo. Whether he’s performing a piercing or overseeing studio operations, he takes pride in upholding the values that have defined Atomic Tattoo for decades: quality, care, and community. Justin has played an integral role in managing daily operations across multiple locations, ensuring quality, cleanliness, and exceptional customer service. His leadership has helped guide Atomic Tattoo’s growth while honoring its rich history and preserving the family-focused, customer-centric values that have made Atomic Tattoo a trusted name in the Austin tattoo community.
